Vintage 1950s Marqusie Shape Necklace
This is a vintage
marquise shape sterling silver necklace that was made between 1930s to
1950s. This style is also called Niello Jewelry. The goddess
on the silver pendant is called Mikela, the Goddess of the sun, shown with lightning
bolts coming from her hand. It was originally made in Siam, now Thailand
and was very popular in 1940s when the American soldiers brought
it home as a gift to their wife or girlfriend from World War
Here is the method of manufacture how they made them back then. Designs were sketched on silver and then the silver is dipped into four different kinds of acid and after each time was burnt over slow candle fire to obtain lasting dark background. This method was 600 years old.
